It’s April in New York’s Hudson Valley, which means one of two things: it’s going to be hot and balmy, or cold and wet. Well, for the Conway’s family portraits, it was cold and wet. Dreary. Overcast. White sky. No detail. What it was was perfectly easy light to work with, for family portraits, with minimal sky details for distraction. As this was the middle of Covid, the Conways gathered in Hudson Valley for a family portrait, that being the birthday wish of the family’s matriarch.
The guys were not-so-into getting dressed up — given that the last 18 months rarely involved putting on more than sweat pants, I don’t blame them. To me, the vibe was perfect though - a laid back afternoon with a family gathered for their portrait, but equally gathered to have a good meal in a comfortable home together, while watching the waters of the Hudson river beneath them slowly drift by.
