New Site Design

New Haven, CT (FP) – At the ripe old age of three years, the site design at PittmanPhoto.com has been replaced with a younger, more flexible, whippersnapper  of a website.  Mike Pittman, CSP (chief sole proprietor) of Pittman Photography said in press-conference this evening: “The site hasn’t been performing as well as we had expected.  In our November 16, 2006 press release, we indicated an expectation of hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of unique visitors from across the globe.  Unfortunately, that (expletive) just didn’t pan out.”

Before I moved from Spokane, WA to New Haven, CT I heard all kinds of stories about the beautiful New England fall foliage.  As fall really started ramping up, I couldn’t believe how pretty some of the trees were getting.  I was, however, underwhelmed at the time.  Many of the trees were just shedding their leaves without ever turning colors.  Many trees were just green, doggedly holding on to their green hue.

Like most people, I have fears: falling, spiders, snakes, going to work in my underwear, etc.  In my photography life, the big thing I’m afraid of is data loss.  Being mugged for my camera or having someone try to kill me for taking a picture of them give me the queasies, but the only thing that makes me wake up in a cold sweat is data loss.

It is common knowledge that the best form of advertising is word-of-mouth.  We are more likely to tell about negative experiences than positive experiences.  When someone comes to me and volunteers that they’ve had a great experience, I am more likely to follow up in some way than if I hear the same thing from the radio, tv, or printed ad.
