It all started at 1:09PM ET on December 1st 2009 with a simple – keep it to 140 characters – announcement from Twitter founder Jack Dorsey (@jack): “Announcing our new company, called @Square, which I’m thrilled to be a part of: http://squareup.com” Since then, the payments world has been abuzz with how this small little device will be a game-changer in the business of credit card acceptance.  I believe the industry buzz word is “disruptive.”  read more »

Eye-Fi announced today the release of their new Eye-Fi Pro X2 card.  You’ll remember some time ago I wrote a review of my newly received Eye-Fi Pro card.  I’ve been using that card solely since that review was written, and despite a few (perceived) small hiccups, I’ve been completely impressed.

Eye-Fi Main PageThe Eye-Fi card is a product I’ve been keeping an eye on for quite some time.  When the product was first introduced in 2005, to me it wasn’t quite ready for prime-time.  Eye-Fi has since released the “Pro” version of the card.  On a whim last “Cyber Monday” I sent Amazon about one hundred of my closely guarded dollars.

Like most people, I have fears: falling, spiders, snakes, going to work in my underwear, etc.  In my photography life, the big thing I’m afraid of is data loss.  Being mugged for my camera or having someone try to kill me for taking a picture of them give me the queasies, but the only thing that makes me wake up in a cold sweat is data loss.

It is common knowledge that the best form of advertising is word-of-mouth.  We are more likely to tell about negative experiences than positive experiences.  When someone comes to me and volunteers that they’ve had a great experience, I am more likely to follow up in some way than if I hear the same thing from the radio, tv, or printed ad.
