My Brush With "Fame" - Tami's Portraits
Okay, my brush with fame might be a little over the top... just a little. As photographers, we get the chance to meet awesome people every day, and then are invited into their lives, even if only for a few hours. For me, I love talking to my clients and finding out their passions, what makes them tick, etc. Okay, let's face it, I just love to talk. Mom said from the moment I learned to talk, the only time my mouth stopped yapping was when I was asleep.
Anyway, Tami contacted me in mid-July after finding my website and enjoying my work. She said she was going to be in NYC for her 30th birthday, and was going to see some shows as well. When we first corresponded, she wanted to do her photo session in the middle of the day. I was against this for two reasons: mid-day heat in mid-July in midtown NYC is ridiculous. And the light is crap, too. I mentioned that if she didn't have plans yet to see a show, she might want to be aware that many shows are dark on Monday nights. That's when it started. She wrote back and said, "Oh, I have my tickets. I'm seeing Newsies on Monday night... July 30th... for the 30th time... on my 30th birthday." Have I mentioned that I really do have the most amazingly awesome clients ever?
I did some research, and found out that she's a little bit of a celebrity in broadway circles, and most of the cast & crew of Newsies recognizes her on sight. We did a little work in Times Square, and then headed off to some side streets for more calm areas and better photos. Despite how amazingly comfortable she looks in a dress with her hair done quite nicely, Tami was quite honest: "Next time, I'm wearing my Iron Maiden tee shirt."
