David & Ian's Wedding
It's easy to be fooled into thinking David & Ian are carefree spirits, floating through the world enjoying life, smelling the (yellow) roses, and being blissfully happy together. The truth is every moment of their wedding was fretted over, including how best to make the vintage NYC Themed postcards they sent as their save the date cards and wedding invitations.
In fact, David -- who has known me going on two years now -- wanted to talk with me in person so badly before the contract was signed, that he and Ian stalked me by car in May, and then scheduled our meet & greet with Ian's parents after they flagged me down while stopped at a traffic light in Brooklyn (true story... mostly).
Before the wedding, Ian's mom walked over to me as I looked out over a fog shrouded New York Harbor and said in a surprisingly chipper voice, "We paid good money for that view, and now I can't see anything! But tell me, have you ever seen a happier couple? Be honest!" During the reception, Ian and his dad brought down the house, almost literally, as they led the wedding guests in a fantastic off-the-cuff dance to "Rocky Top."
Today, as I listened to the audio of Ian saying his vows, I had to stop the recording before I went into full-on sad music mode. As any wedding photographer will tell you, it's our job to capture the joy and love at a wedding, and save that for generations to come. I can only hope that as David & Ian's family look at these photos, they will relive the wedding and feel the emotions all over again.
